Kelly even once used one as a sling for her broken arm. Well-heeled women wear it on their heads, around their necks and, in a genius piece of cross-promotion, tied to the straps of their Hermès bags. Today, vintage Hermès scarves, typically adorned in rich colors and elaborate patterns, serve many functions, just as they did back then. Based on a woodblock designed by Dumas and printed on Chinese silk, the accessory was an immediate hit. Robert Dumas was also responsible for another one of the brand’s most iconic offerings: the launch of its first silk scarf on the occasion of Hermès’s 100th anniversary in 1937. Each Kelly bag takes between 18 and 25 hours to produce, and its 680 hand stitches owe solely to one Hermès artisan. In 1977, Hermès officially renamed the model for her, and the Kelly bag was born. Because she was photographed constantly, the coverage catapulted her handbag to international popularity. Later, actress Grace Kelly, then engaged to Prince Rainier of Monaco, is said to have used one of these bags to conceal her pregnancy during the 1950s. In the 1930s, Robert Dumas (son-in-law to Émile-Maurice Hermès, Thierry’s grandson) designed a smaller, trapezoidal take on the flap bag with a handle and two side straps. Today, 120 years later, the HAC remains in Hermès’s line - and its distinctive flap and clasping straps have laid the groundwork for some of the house’s other iconic bags. As the world made the switch from horse to automobile, the bag adapted, becoming a multifunctional travel satchel instead of a designated saddlebag. A tall bag secured with a folded leather flap (fastened with bridle-inspired straps), it was designed to transport riding boots and a harness. The first top-handled bag ever produced by Hermès was the Haut à courroies, which made its debut in 1892. Gradually, the house extended into accessories and luggage for its riders, and today, in paying homage to its origins, the family-run luxury brand resurfaces horse motifs in everything from clothing and modernist jewelry to pillows and handbags. In 1837, German-born French entrepreneur Thierry Hermès opened a saddle and harness purveyor in Paris. What do you think of the Hermes Oran Sandals? Let me know! Also, be sure to check out my latest luxury review about Louboutin Shoes here! That in itself is quite shocking as the brand tends to overprice every item because of their name and prestige! It’s stood up against the test of time, has options for everyone, is very comfortable, and super chic. In the grand scheme of luxury leather sandals, the price is right in the ballpark of other luxury brands. I’m not a big fan of Hermès in general, but these sandals I stand behind without a doubt. If you love them but not the price, there are lots of good dupes out there, too. It’s a timeless design and a classic which will never go out of style. There truly is something for everyone if you like the style. They’re constantly dropping new colors for them and even different fabrics and fun prints. They elevate any look and will become one of your closet favorites. Once they’re broken in, they’re quite comfortable and a very classy, elegant sandal. My go-to shoe for white monochromatic looks. They do make the Oasis version which is a mule with a smaller block heel if that’s more your vibe, too. To be honest, I almost bought these in the blue suede and I’ve been eyeing the brown ones as well. The day they give out, I will be running to Hermès and repurchasing them in white. They are my most worn summer sandal by far. If you don’t mind having a twinning moment with other ladies, especially as you travel to touristic destinations, then YES! I 100% recommend these. Back in the Midwest, I don’t think I ever saw a pair of them in person that I remember. However, I’d say this is subject to where you live. Not only that, but I’m sure you’ve seen them everywhere on social media. Tropez, I am not kidding you when I say that every other woman I saw was wearing them. If you’re somebody who doesn’t like ‘basic’ items and wants to stand out from the crowd, these sandals are not it. I am insanely impressed by these sandals! Follow me on my Instagram to see these babies in action they’re featured quite often. Overall, for the amount of times and situations I have worn these, they still look gorgeous. ![]()
